» ANNUAL REPORT  OF SWASHAKTI SWADHAR SHELTER FOR THE YEAR 2006-07

INTRODUCTION :-

Indian culture is well known for its traditional, well-bound kinship system, which provides a measure of security and assurity for all its members. However, Indian society is changing rapidly and the values of social spheres of the society is declining, as a result, women and girls have emerged as the most neglected and uncared for by the family in particular and the society at large. Many a time family/society fail to respond to the needs of women and cares in distress. Sometimes society itself drives such women out of the system to lead lives of sub-human existence. As such, the most vulnerable group of the society i.e. women and girls in distressed up as beggars or prostitutes for their own survivals and for survival and maintenance of the dependent children.

More over women in difficult circumstances like widows, destitute and deserted women, women of ex-prisoners, victims social abuse, trafficked women, women who have rendered home less due to natural disaster like flood, cyclone, earthquake, victims of terrorist violence and gang raped were not getting the immediate family support.
