» DISASTER MANAGEMEN PROGRAMME

Orissa has been experiencing natural disaster like flood, drought and cyclone almost every year since 1965. While flood and drought house becomes common features in the state, cyclone is not frequently observed. Natural calamities have not only become a problem for the state of Orissa but have also become a threat to sustainable development as the vulnerability has been increasing due to national disaster.

 The natural disasters are beyond human control. Only we can take always precaution before the disaster. Community Based Disaster Preparedness is an important means for disaster response, management and risk reduction. Because the top level approaches always fails to address the specific local needs of the vulnerable communities in time.

To facing the challenge Bhairabi Club, in collaboration with District Administration and Orissa State Disaster Mitigation Authority and UNDP launching the Disaster Risk management Programme in Khordha Block of Khordha District.

DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE  :-

In the action of Disaster management Programme Bhairabi Club form Disaster Management Committee in 49 villages of 10 G.Ps. and the community contingency plan were formed in each and every villages.

VOLUNTEERS TRAINING :-

Two selected volunteers of each villages of 10 G.Ps. were trained on Disaster Reduction.

PRI MEMBERS TRAINING :-

Disaster Risk Management training was given to the PRI members such as Ward Member, Sarapanch and Panchayat Samiti members of 10 G.Ps. of Khordha Block

SEARCH RESCUE, FIRST AID & PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID TRAINING  :-

Six to Ten members of Task force committee of each village were provided Search & Rescue Training, First Aid Training and Psychological First Aid Training.

PARTICIPATION IN STATE LEVEL COMPETITION  :-

The Task Force members participated in the State Level Competition Programme and bagged the 2nd Prize in Search and Rescue Programme.
